Maui’s best snorkel beaches: Ulua Beach and Mokapu Beach

Ulua Beach - Mokapu Beach
Ulua Beach is one of Maui’s best snorkel beaches. Located on the south side of the Island

Ulua Beach is located next to the Wailea Marriott and the new Hotel Andaz. There is free parking; however it fills up early as this is one of the most popular Snorkeling and Scuba Diving beaches on the south side of Maui, in Kihei-Wailea-Makena.

Ulua Beach is a nice sandy beach with fabulous snorkeling.  The Turtle Reef is on the right side of the beach (if you are looking at the ocean). You can stay in the shallow water or go farther out along the rocks and coral. If you go out to the outer edge of the reef, you can snorkel around to the other side, which is Mokapu Beach.

Both Ulua Beach aand Mokapu Beach are accessible from the free public beach parking lot.  There are Turtles everywhere along the coastline, so you have a great chance of seeing the Hawaiian Sea Turtles. Ulua Beach is considered to be the most popular Snorkel beach on the south side of Maui.

There is a nice grass area to hang out on, with shade if you like. (not always an easy thing to find). There are public Bathrooms and showers. Bring a picnic and get comfortable, or you can also stop into any one of the many restaurants and shops at the Luxury Wailea Hotels. I don’t recommend the Pool bar at the Grand Wailea, however all the others are good and worth the $$ for the view and setting. You are in paradise after all :-).

There is an oceanfront cement “boardwalk” that goes from Andaz to the Fairmont Kealani.
