Maui’s best snorkel beaches: Keawekapu Beach
The best snorkeling is in front of the Mana Kai, and also in the middle of this long beach. *see google Earth image below….
As mentioned in our “tips and tricks” page to finding a good snorkel beach, look for the dark patches of water and the Rocks. Most of the grass area in between the Mana Kai Resrot and Maui Oceanfront Inn is State (or county) land. You are welcome to bring a Beach equipment rentals and hang out for the day. You may even think about renting one of our SUP (stand up paddle) boards, if it is calm enough to snorkel , it should be calm enough to enjoy an hour or so on one of the boards. SO FUN! Bring a picnic or pop up to the 5 Plams Beach Grill for lunch There is also a Deli on site. The 5 Palms Beach Grill is also very popular for Happy Hour :-).
There is a free parking lot between the Mana Kai (5 Palms Restaurant) and the Maui Ocean Front Inn (Sarentos Restaurant). As with all snorkel beaches on Maui, there are a lot of Hawaiian Sea Turtles here, as well as a lots of different species of tropical Fish!
Keawekapu Beach runs right into Mokapu Beach and Ulua Beach. You wont even notice its a seperate beach during low tide. Keawekapu beach is one of the best beaches on Maui for families. Free Parking, Tide Pools, Restaurant, Bathrooms and shower and a nice beach!
Keawekapu Beach has panoramic views of W. Maui, the Island of Lana’i, the Island of Kaho’olawe, and Molokini Crater. As with all snorkel beaches, the earlier you go the calmer the ocean (normally, not always), it also helps if the sun is shinning…to help you see the colors of the tropical fish.
